Broiled Saffron Halloumi Party Bites

It’s that time of year again… cheering with bubbly drinks and platters of finger food to go with them as we ring in the New Year. Whether your bubbly is kombucha or champagne, the best finger food is something that strikes a balance between salty and sweet. Enter these broiled halloumi bites drizzled with saffron honey, thyme and pomegranates.

This is the perfect no-recipe festive finger food. With a touch of elegance from the saffron and the gooey saltiness of the warm halloumi, this quick dish is a favorite at every party I’ve served it at.

Last week I shared a holiday snack board here on FP and in that article you can find the easy steps for how to make your own saffron honey plus an array of other uses for it. Grab that recipe here and check out the recipe card below to find out how to toss this last minute New Year’s appetizer together.

P.S. If you can’t squeeze it in to your New Year’s menu then save this recipe as a must try because it is delectable and it will easily become your go-to pre-dinner app for 2021. Also, side note… keep a look out for local halloumi, there are numerous producers in Sweden nowadays, even some organic, and I dare say that they are even better then the original.

Ingredients

1 package halloumi

1 Tbsp olive oil

3 Tbsp saffron honey (get recipe here)

Fresh thyme

Pomegranate seeds

black pepper

Instructions

Set the oven on broil function. Cut the halloumi into bite sized pieces and spread out on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Drizzle the halloumi with a bit of olive oil and place under the broiler for only a couple minutes. Keep an eye out to make sure it doesn’t burn.

Move the broiled halloumi to a serving plate and drizzle with some saffron honey. Garnish with fresh thyme, pomegranate seeds and some fresh cracked black pepper. Enjoy!

Notes

TIP!

This pairs so well to a glass of bubbly, with or without alcohol. Get the recipe for the saffron honey here.
