First Advent: Caramel Balls With Gingerbread Flavor
November is beginning to wind towards its end and if it’s any consolation, you are not alone in holiday decorating and digging out your Advent candlesticks, or forgetting to buy an Advent calendar for the children (no worries, you still have a few hours left!). Sunday is the first Advent and what couldn’t be better than eating some caramel balls with gingerbread flavor?
This week we posted four different recipes for Advent sweets on our insta (follow us here for daily inspiration) and asked you to vote for your favorite. All the recipes received a lot of votes, but it was one in particular that stood out a little extra. Namely our completely magical caramel balls with gingerbread flavor!
We have simply taken one of our absolute favorite recipes from our cookbook, and added some ordinary gingerbread spice. That’s it, folks! Our recipe for caramel balls is actually one of the recipes that we still get hallelujah emails for from blog readers, five years after we first published it on the blog. And with the addition of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves, it was like a revelation 2.O.
In addition, we topped the melted chocolate with a little grated coconut and lingonberry powder for a slightly more Christmas touch. Not a must of course, but we thought it was nice with a little holiday color .
PrintFirst Advent: Caramel balls with gingerbread flavor
Ingredients
20 fresh dates (pitted)
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 cup cold pressed coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
dark chocolate (at least 70%)
1 tablespoon gingerbread spices
small wooden skewers
Instructions
Put the dates in a blender together with salt, coconut oil, vanilla and gingerbread spice. Mix until everything is shiny and comes together like a dough, it may take a little longer than you think.
Then roll the batter into small balls. Melt the chocolate over a water bath. Put a stick in each ball and then dip each one in the chocolate. Place the sticks in a glass until the chocolate has completely cooled.
Remove the sticks from the balls. Congratulations, you are now ready for the first Advent!
Notes
TIP!For other seasons – dare to flavor with, for example, cardamom, licorice powder or grated lemon peel.
