The Philosopher’s Cinnamon Balls
Juni: Can I have them all?
Juni’s mom: Well, you have to leave at least one for your brother.
Juni: Why?
Juni’s mom: Otherwise it’s not fair.
Juni: But he doesn’t even know they exist?
Juni’s mom: So, you’re saying, if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, it doesn’t make a sound?
Juni: What?
Juni’s mom: This is way too complicated. Have them all, that’s fine.
Cinnamon Balls
(a satisfying bunch)
1/2 cup almonds
5 dates
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp cinnamon
a pinch of cardamom
a pinch of salt
sesame seeds (for rolling)
Place the almonds in a high speed blender and process until finely ground (doesn’t have to be perfect). Add the rest of the ingredients and pulse until you have a dough-like consistency. Use a tablespoon to scoop out the mixture, and roll into balls. Roll each ball in sesame seeds and refrigerate. Done!
